Jongmyo Jeryeak (2015)

Jongmyo Daeje is a traditional Korean ritual held annually on the first Sunday of May to honor the spirits of Korea's past kings and queens. Originating in the 15th century during the Joseon Dynasty, the ceremony features national music and dance and was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2001. For the first time, the ritual is being performed outside of Korea. In 2015, musicians and dancers from Seoul's National Gugak Center presented a performance at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris as part of the Franco-Korean Friendship Year, with approximately 100 performers, dancers, singers, and musicians participating.
