Father (2005)

This film, created for the 1st Moscow Biennale, centers on the director's father, Cao Chongen, a renowned sculpture artist. From a young age, he sculpted figures representing leaders in industry, agriculture, the military, politics, culture, and the Communist Party. Commissioned by a former revolutionary base in Guangxi Province to create a full-length sculpture of a young Deng Xiaoping for the leader's centenary, the "A Journey of Deng Xiaoping's footprints" became a tourism symbol. The director follows in his father’s footsteps, and the giant sculpture reveals a clear connection between the father’s artistic ideals and present-day reality.
