Description:
In 1709, the renowned Swedish Karoliner army suffers a devastating defeat at Poltava. King Karl XII seeks aid from the Turkish Sultan in the small town of Bender to defeat his rival, Russian Czar Peter the Great. The Sultan, viewing Karl XII as a costly guest, wants him gone, but the King refuses to leave. To persuade him, the Sultan offers a princess as a bride – a bribe to secure his departure. Two Swedish soldiers, Lagercrona and Kruus, are tasked with escorting the princess. Their journey to Bender is fraught with obstacles, as other Swedish soldiers and agents attempt to prevent them from reaching their destination, fearing Karl XII's departure from Turkey. After a long and eventful journey filled with misunderstandings, the Sultan initiates a forceful expulsion of Karl XII from Turkey in a chaotic event known as the "kalabalik" of Bender.
