On the Spot (2003)

Miguel Gil, feeling unfulfilled in his legal career, impulsively became a war correspondent despite having no prior journalism experience. His drive and passion allowed him to learn from leading war journalists in extremely dangerous environments – an achievement few manage. Years later, he and an American journalist were killed in Sierra Leone. This documentary follows his journey. Interviews with numerous journalists reveal a common claim of pursuing truth, a notion complicated by the reality of how some, including those from major news corporations like CNN, have adapted news to fit short, sensational formats. Overall, the film offers a revealing look at the conflicts of the past fifteen years and the individuals who risk everything to report on them.
