Description:
Monsieur Victor presents himself as the picture of respectability: a well-regarded shopkeeper in Toulon, devoted to his wife and kind to everyone. But beneath this facade lies a secret life as a notorious receiver of stolen goods, dealing with dangerous criminals. Victor maintains this double life effortlessly until a criminal associate threatens to expose him. Panicked by the potential scandal, Victor kills the associate with a shoemaker's tool. The murder is wrongly attributed to a local shoemaker, who receives a ten-year prison sentence. Seven years later, the escaped convict reappears in Toulon, and the first person to recognize him is Monsieur Victor.
