Description:
Marie Krøyer is widely considered Europe's most beautiful woman, enjoying a seemingly idyllic life with her renowned Danish painter husband, P.S. Krøyer, and their daughter. Yet, beneath the surface, Marie's life is unraveling; her aspirations of being a devoted wife, mother, and artist remain unfulfilled. Following her husband’s hospitalization due to mental illness, she takes a vacation and unexpectedly falls in love with the young composer Hugo Alfvén. Director Bille August once again explores the vulnerabilities of human beings against a harsh world. The vast, empty Scandinavian landscapes underscore the silent suffering of the characters, whose lives are filled with hidden pain.
