Since 1998, the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health in Ottawa has provided a welcoming space for Indigenous people from diverse communities. A significant expansion in 2013, designed by First Nations architect Douglas Cardinal, greatly enhanced the centre's capacity to serve Ottawa’s Indigenous population in a low-income neighborhood. Under Allison Fisher’s leadership, Wabano has evolved beyond a health facility to become a vital community hub, grounded in traditional Indigenous healing practices and offering a sense of belonging for many.
