Description:
The act of diving into the sea represents both death and rebirth, a return to the origins of life. This idea, inspired by Pierre Lévêque's description of the illustrations in *Tomb of the Diver*, struck me deeply when I saw a viral video of a young man executed in Iran in 2020. Days after his death, a shaky cell phone video of him surfaced, showing him running and diving into a pool in slow motion. I filmed the video with a Super 8 camera, using it as a way to amplify both the tragedy and the mourning. Three years later, people still chant his name in protest. Like waves after a dive, injustice continues to spread. (Niyaz Saghari)
