Description:

Naomi, a Black child with light skin, is abandoned by her mother and raised by Mrs. Saunders, a woman of strong moral character. As Naomi becomes increasingly fixated on whiteness, she develops a prejudice against her own race and is sent to a convent. Deeply in love with her adoptive brother Jimmie, Naomi agrees to marry his friend. However, she is disgusted by his darker skin and unrefined nature.
