Growing up in Poland, he faced family loss and the devastation of Nazi occupation while dedicating himself to his faith. As Pope, John Paul II gained worldwide affection. He navigated challenges like the sexual abuse scandal in the U.S., the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Romero, and a serious assassination attempt on his own life, all while striving for unity among different religions. He remained a powerful figure until his death in April 2005 from Parkinson's disease.
