Description:
In 1955, a group of people journey back to the canal from the Kazakh Steppes, where many had migrated from Russia. Among them is Alenka Muratova, a charming 13-year-old who persuades Dmitry Prokovich, the Soviet's chief mechanic, to give up his seat for a young mother and her baby. Alenka then shares the truck's back with a recent dental school graduate searching for work, Stefan, a hitchhiker hoping to win back his wife, and Vasselina Petrovolka, who is returning to tell the other twin sister about the tragic death of one of their shared daughters in an accident. This film offers a heartfelt glimpse into the lives of ordinary people traveling the frontier.
