Description:

Dublin, 1911. John Cassidy (Rod Taylor) is a poor but idealistic man, tied to his family by responsibility. He navigates the social struggles of Dublin, becoming involved in a turbulent tramway workers' strike, briefly connecting with a woman named Daisy Battles (Julie Christie), and searching for opportunity. He falls for Nora (Dame Maggie Smith), a bookshop assistant who inspires him to pursue writing. Achieving success at the Abbey Theatre, his unconventional beliefs create distance between him and those he knows, including family, friends, and his own history.
