Description:
In 1975, Chicago filmmakers Flaxman and Goldman were given complete access to film the production of a local film called THE LAST AFFAIR. The film's director, who wanted to blend Fellini and Bergman, and its cast, including newcomers Betty Thomas and Ron Dean, had no prior experience in filmmaking. Shot in the direct cinema style pioneered by Drew and Leacock, A LABOR OF LOVE offers a revealing and often funny look at the realities of adult filmmaking: actors dislike each other off-camera, performers struggle with sexual performance, an actress experiences menstrual issues, a substitute for semen is used, and the director admits to disliking the entire process.
