Set in California, the story explores the destructive power of intrigue, accusations, and slander. Phillip Madison is a successful surgeon with a happy family and excellent reputation. His life is disrupted by Brittany Harding, a psychopathic woman who begins blackmailing him with false rape accusations, threatening his marriage and career. When the blackmail fails, her aggression escalates. Following an accident, Madison is charged with causing the deaths of two pedestrians. The ensuing investigation and trial seek to prove his guilt or uncover another responsible party. Is the doctor innocent, and can he clear his name of the false accusations and manslaughter charges?
