Description:
ROUNDS is a hand-painted film made from repeating loops that create a sense of familiarity without showing exact repetition. The abstract colored shapes resemble carnival figures or performers on a stage, giving their movements a theatrical quality. When the paint is most visible, the scenes evoke the dramatic gestures of Abstract Expressionism. The film begins with blues, reds, and occasional yellows and greens, set against white or black. It gradually blends these colors, balancing them with darks and lights, culminating in a burst of yellow at the end. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in 2014.
