Yunagi City, Sakura Country (2007)

Thirteen years later, Minami (Kumiko Aso), one of the film’s two main characters, reflects as she dies in 1958 from an illness caused by radiation exposure: "They did it! They were able to kill another person!" The film *Yunagi no Machi, Sakura no Kuni* explores the experiences of survivors of the 1945 Hiroshima bombing and their descendants in the present day. Based on a comic by Fumiyo Kono, the story shifts between these two time periods, gently portraying the sorrow and shame felt by the quiet people of Hiroshima through their daily lives. Only a few scenes depict the bombing and its aftermath.
