Description:
This film follows the mundane routines of police officers in Beijing's western sector, where crime is minimal and procedures dominate. A loose dog triggers a sector-wide hunt, escalating when authorities order all dogs captured due to rabies fears and their popularity among the wealthy. The officers occasionally apprehend petty criminals – a pornography dealer, a three-card monte operator – but mostly they smoke, attend meetings, and undergo training. Patrolling on bicycles and enforcing regulations, they navigate their duties. Officer Guoli works the night shift, facing domestic pressure from his wife who desires more from him. Is there anything more to be done?
