Wagner – Götterdämmerung (2005)

This Barcelona production of Wagner's *Götterdämmerung* has musical strengths and weaknesses. However, director Kupfer focuses on Brünnhilde and Hagen, and the singers deliver strong performances. Deborah Polaski is particularly excellent in the final scene, conveying warmth and emotion. This powerful performance compensates for some vocal challenges earlier in the opera. Matti Salminen is compelling as Hagen, portraying a complex character rather than a simple villain. Soprano Elisabete Matos makes Gutrune sympathetic, and Julia Juon brings a new depth to the role of Waltraute.
