Sáng Đèn (2024)

In 1994, Cai Luong, a popular Vietnamese theatrical form, was thriving. Ten-year-old Thanh, a fisherman, bravely held a sacred altar despite the river's dangers, which led to his adoption by theater troupe leader Mr. Bau. Kieu Truc Linh, a beautiful nine-year-old, is the daughter of renowned singer Kieu Truc Le. To protect her daughter, Truc Le makes a sacrifice. A decade later, the troupe struggles with dwindling audiences and has transformed from a traditional Cai Luong group into a vaudeville act featuring circus performances and lotteries. The traditional music and opera are now fragmented, highlighting the conflict between old and new.
