Homesick (2000)

Nakamura, an elderly man, drives alone back to his hometown in Hokkaido and encounters Akemi, a young girl abandoned by her boyfriend after a minor argument. Their journey feels like traveling through a desolate world, unfolding at the pace of Nakamura’s car. They meet Shizuko, a middle-aged woman fleeing with a large amount of money, and Goh, a former police officer struggling with repeated suicide attempts. They spend a night together. *Homesick* is a road movie set in late autumn Hokkaido that explores the theme of homesickness with dark humor.
