Born in 1932, Keiko Kishi was among the first Japanese actresses to gain international recognition. Her move to France and marriage to director Yves Ciampi in 1957 – following his filming of her in *Typhoon Over Nagasaki* with Jean Marais and Danielle Darrieux – sparked considerable controversy in Japan. Despite this, Kishi continued to work in Japanese cinema with acclaimed directors like Kon Ichikawa, Yasujiro Ozu, and Masaki Kobayashi, forging connections between Japanese and European filmmaking. Independent and determined, she overcame industry barriers and established her own production company in her early twenties. This is the story of a trailblazer who has inspired many.
