Las llaves de la independencia (2005)

In mid-19th century Mexico, Lázaro Expósito is a young revolutionary. The story follows Lázaro, who is adopted by Javier Artal, a member of a wealthy Spanish family. However, he is consistently rejected by his father’s brother due to his race and origins, leaving him feeling like an outsider despite his comfortable upbringing. Through a series of events, we learn that Lázaro is both a fierce fighter and deeply compassionate, yet he never discovers his true background. The story unfolds on the Artal Brothers Estate, once prosperous but now in decline after years of conflict. The Artals, who brought their wives from Spain, have descendants born in Mexico.
