Almost two centuries ago, Paris, Berlin, Leipzig, and Varna were established near the Ural Mountains. The Nagaybak Cossacks began a tradition of naming their settlements after faraway victories. This tradition has led to a unique situation: deep within Russia, in the Urals, exists a region with a distinct European character. The question is, how do people from Paris and Berlin find life so far from their respective capitals?
