Description:
In 2000, Alexander McQueen and Nick Knight were commissioned to create an installation for the Avignon Festival of Beauty. They presented a strikingly unconventional interpretation of beauty: eighty gallons of live, dyed maggots arranged to form an angel, photographed by Knight. Over time, the installation darkens and eventually breaks down into a swarm of flies. The project explores themes of beauty, the passage of time, transformation, and ultimately, mortality.
