III Crossing (2002)

Cities shape how we move within them. In Los Angeles, driving is the norm; in Amsterdam, cycling is key, and Tokyo relies on trains. Junebum Park's two video works examine these different ways of traveling: on foot or by car. Filmed from above, both showcase the organized patterns of city planning – crosswalks and parking lots – as people navigate them. This bird's-eye view makes the people appear small, like insects, and Park further emphasizes this scale by including his own large hand, controlling the scene. We experience the action from Park’s perspective, as an all-seeing, controlling presence.
