Ashkenaz (2007)

Ashkenazi Jews, who originated in Europe, are often considered the dominant group in Israel, similar to how white people are in many multicultural societies. They tend to see themselves as the standard and don't identify with race or ethnicity, believing "aren't we all Israelis?" Yiddish has been replaced by Hebrew, exile by occupation, traditional villages by modern communities, and old-fashioned humor by contemporary cynicism. However, this perception of whiteness in Israel is complicated by Ashkenazi history. ASHKENAZ explores the concept of whiteness in Israel, questioning how the historical "outsiders" of Europe became the central identity for others.
