Description:
A young Pole states in the film’s prologue that he can only truly belong where he understands the past. The story centers on Kopaniec, once Seifershau, a village in Lower Silesia. The village serves as a bridge between the past and present, marked by the expulsion of Germans and the subsequent resettlement of Poles, many of whom were themselves displaced from Ukraine. The younger Poles have grown up with the presence of these returning German residents. Through the life stories of both younger Poles and older Germans, the film explores the impact of war and expulsion, as well as the period when they lived together in the village immediately after the war – a time when the region was known as "Silesia's Wild West." "Silesia's Wild West" asks: what defines home – is it a place, a person, a feeling, or a memory?
