In Hong Sang-Soo’s *Lost in the Mountains* (South Korea, 32min), Mi-Sook impulsively drives to Jeonju to visit her former classmate Jin-Young, only to find out that Jin-Young is having an affair with their married professor – someone Mi-Sook herself once dated. The situation creates extreme social awkwardness. *Koma* (Japan, 34min) by Naomi Kawase follows Kang Jun-Il as he journeys to a rural Japanese village to fulfill his grandfather’s dying wish: returning a Buddhist scroll to its ancestral home. There, amidst local superstitions, he develops a new relationship. Lav Diaz’ *Butterflies Have No Memories* (Philippines, 42min) stars Carol, a former "homecoming queen," who returns to her economically struggling hometown and becomes the target of a bizarre kidnapping plot orchestrated by disgruntled locals. Diaz wrote, filmed, and edited the film himself, casting only his crew members in a blend of social realism and fantasy. —bfi
