A Drop of Dew: Shoji Ueda’s Photographs that Woke the World (2006)

Ueda Shoji began his career before World War II, quickly establishing himself as a notable photographer. He develops his own unique vision by manipulating photographs – cutting and rearranging them – leading him to explore new media like Ga-nime, with encouragement from his fellow native-born actor and friend, Sano Shiro. The photographs in this exhibition span his acclaimed "Dune Mode" series and include many images of his hometown, capturing Tokyo streetcars and traditional Japanese life, revealing a comprehensive view of Japanese culture.
