Yvette (2008)

Director Simonka de Jong chronicles the final eighteen months of secondary school for sixteen-year-old Yvette in Nieuwegein. Outwardly, Yvette projects a tough image: she favors Lonsdale clothing, spends time smoking in the schoolyard, and clashes with her peers, who struggle to understand or accept her racism. Yvette seems lost and presents a contradictory persona. While she embodies the stereotypical Lonsdale girl, in the privacy of her home, with her hair down, she reveals herself as a shy teenager with personal dreams and desires.
