Deer Wars (2007)

This documentary recounts the dramatic story of helicopter deer culling in New Zealand's Southern Alps. Introduced deer had become a significant environmental problem, leading to a shift in the 1960s from traditional hunting to machine-assisted culling. Deer were shot and then captured alive from helicopters, transforming the landscape into a battleground. "Deer Wars" explores this period, often compared to "Top Gun," where hunters calculated the risks and rewards of these dangerous operations over the beech forests. The film includes interviews with those who participated and raw footage of men working from helicopters, sometimes in perilous situations.
