Backlands, America (2023)

Archaeologist Niède Guidon has dedicated her life to establishing a national park in Piauí, Brazil, to protect what may be the earliest evidence of human life in the Americas. SERTÃO, AMÉRICA is a modern exploration of the legendary landscape of Brazilian cinema, a region previously explored by filmmakers like Glauber Rocha. The film briefly visits this area, using delicate, aged visuals and muted colors to evoke the stories of past inhabitants, interwoven with subtle sound design inspired by the natural environment.
