Description:

At a marine biology station, a patch of algae reveals a surprising colony of polyps – creatures with stomachs, limbs, and buds containing poison cells. The colony reproduces by buds, shown in close-up time-lapse. In another species, the buds develop internally before emerging as independent organisms after a few days. Some reproduce by releasing eggs, sometimes fertilizing themselves. Other clumps consist of filaments from a colony, ending in poisonous plumes. Over 72 hours, we observe these filaments grow and develop a feeding structure, from which a plume emerges. New jellyfish appear from buds twice daily, forming new colonies.
