Swift Justice (2023)

In August 2021, the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan after two decades of conflict with the United States. Their return has significantly impacted the country, and their strict interpretation of Islamist law has drastically changed the lives of many Afghans. A central part of the Taliban's rule is the implementation of Sharia Law, a key promise of their return – to deliver justice based on Quranic principles. "Swift Justice" observes a courtroom in Musa Qala, Helmand province, a region with a strong history of Taliban resistance. The film documents Afghan civilians as they navigate the legal system, seeking justice during a period of fragile peace and growing authoritarianism.
