Rei (2024)

Tanaka Toshihiko's film explores human connections, using the versatile name "Toshihiko" as a symbol for its protagonist, Matsushita Hikari, a seemingly carefree company employee in her early thirties. While her life appears stable, she becomes increasingly aware of the struggles of those around her and the strength found in relationships. Lacking this grounding, Hikari feels adrift. A trip to the Hokkaido mountains leads her to Masato, a Deaf landscape photographer, and initiates a transformative journey that reshapes her understanding of herself and her place in the world.
