Description:
This is the true story of Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Russia’s last independent newspaper. In 2021, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless defense of free speech, a fight made perilous by the murders of six of his journalists who challenged the government. When Russia invades Ukraine in February 2022, Muratov secretly works to secure safe passage for forty journalists with the Latvian government, using a film festival as cover. He then returns to Moscow to protect his newspaper and its remaining staff, refusing to leave despite immense pressure. He remains in Moscow, declaring, "Putin stands for death. I stand for life."
