Death of the Poet (2005)

This film presents the first documentary evidence of Vladimir Vysotsky's final struggle with death, twenty-five years after his passing on July 25, 1980, at the age of 42. Unlike other literary figures of his time, Vysotsky’s death wasn't sudden or violent. Instead, a prolonged illness intensified into agonizing agony in the months leading up to his death. Using eyewitness accounts from those who knew him intimately during that final year, the film reconstructs events chronologically from January 1st to July 25th, 1980. While offering a detailed account, the film acknowledges the subjective nature of understanding such a personal experience and leaves room for individual interpretation.
