Tonia and her Children (2011)

In 1949 Wroclaw, 11-year-old Werka and her 9-year-old brother Marcel arrive at a children's home. When asked their identities, Werka states, "We are children of communists." The teacher responds with a bitter outburst: "Why do they only send us Judeo-communists?!!!" Werka and Marcel's mother, a communist from before the war, is arrested and sentenced to five and a half years for alleged collaboration with American intelligence. The children spend those years in different orphanages. This is the story of two siblings shaped by their parents’ political beliefs.
