Description:
The film follows Otto Baxter, a 35-year-old man with Down Syndrome, over six years as he writes and directs a darkly comedic musical. The story is autobiographical, set in Victorian London, and features Otto’s struggles to express himself. Through his film, "The Puppet Asylum," Otto explores his birth, adoption, and a conflict with a manipulative figure he calls "The Master." As Otto makes the film, he deals with the death of his birth mother and begins to consider his future. His filmmaker friends, Bruce Fletcher and Peter Beard, support him in realizing his vision while also gaining insight into Otto’s unique worldview and how they can help shape his life.
