Hearing Radmilla (2003)

Radmilla Cody, raised on the Navajo Nation, faced prejudice because of her mixed Native American and African-American ancestry. In her early twenties, she competed and won the Miss Navajo Nation pageant, highlighting her knowledge of the Diné language and traditional skills. Her victory as the first bi-racial Miss Navajo Nation sparked controversy. Later, an abusive relationship with a drug dealer led to her being charged in federal court. Documentary filmmaker Angela Webb chronicles Cody's journey as she confronts hardship and ultimately discovers healing through music.
