Description:
Since the late 1990s, Motohiko Odani has gained recognition for his detailed sculptures and explorations of both ideal and nightmarish futures. A central focus in his sculpture, photography, and video is the transformation of humans and animals. In his video *Rompers*, a computer-generated mutant girl sings cheerfully as strange insects surround her. She appears unconcerned by them, seemingly accepting her changing nature. The video reflects on how bioengineering alters the natural world, drawing inspiration from the wholesome atmosphere of *Romper Room*, a children's television show popular in the 1950s. The Japanese version, broadcast in the late 1960s and 1970s, featured playful toys and animals alongside children.
