Description:
This film follows choreographer Paul Taylor and his dance company throughout 1997. The making of Taylor's work, "Piazzolla Caldera," from its beginnings through rehearsals to its premiere at City Center, is the central focus. A trip to India interrupts the process. The film combines archival black and white rehearsal footage with contemporary interviews featuring Taylor, his dancers, dance critics, scholars, and the company's administrators. It also includes footage of a young Taylor dancing and performances of twelve of his works. The film explores his artistic vision, his background, his approach to working with dancers, and the perspectives of those who know him best.
