Description:
Throughout a year, the film follows Ken Coolen, president of the Vancouver Pride Society, as he travels to international Pride events in countries like Poland, Hungary, Russia, and Sri Lanka, where pride parades face significant opposition. In North America, Pride is challenged by commercial interests, with some feeling the festivals prioritize tourism and entertainment over their original political purpose. The film explores how larger, more mainstream Pride events are supporting the global movement and incorporating human rights advocacy. In New York, organizers launch the Drag March, an alternative parade protesting the commercialization of New York Pride. A parade in São Paulo, the world's largest Pride festival, features a completely empty float symbolizing those lost to HIV and anti-gay violence.
