While reading in a field, a young man falls instantly in love with Sadako Abe, a woman who walks by. Teiko takes a job as a maid for Shintaro's family to cover her mother’s medical and funeral expenses. However, Sadako is hired by Shintaro’s father and spends nights with him. Shintaro pursues a relationship with Teiko, but their connection is complicated by his stepmother, Tokuko, and the head maid, Masami, who are both jealous of him and mistreat Sadako. Despite this, Teiko and Shintaro fall in love. Their relationship is threatened when Omiya, who introduced Teiko to Shintaro, attempts to expose Shintaro’s secret. What is this secret?
