Stranger in My Town (2011)

Nozomi Takemoto, a shy first-year high school student, lives in Omuta with her father, a town that used to prosper from coal mining. As summer ends, Nozomi cycles to the town's edge and discovers the remains of a coal mine turret, a symbol of its former wealth. Fascinated, she researches the town's history in the library. There, she meets a reporter covering Omuta's life after the mines closed. During her summer exploration, Nozomi slowly learns about her family’s hidden past and connects with the experiences of her father and grandparents.
