The Salt Stories (2008)

In 1930, a group of Indians, led by a frail elderly man, walked 241 miles for salt. Mahatma Gandhi transformed the basic need for salt into a powerful anti-colonial movement, asserting Indians’ right to produce and use their own. Seventy-seven years later, the Wide Eye Film team retraces Gandhi's famous Dandi salt march, visiting the same villages and towns to explore his enduring legacy. Against the backdrop of his historic journey, this road movie examines contemporary issues of livelihood in modern India. It’s a documentary about today’s "salt stories."
