Description:
Silent Gunpowder is a Yugoslavian war film set in World War II Bosnia, based on a novel by Branko Ćopić. The story follows a Serbian village torn apart by ideological conflict between the Chetniks and the Partisans. This division is primarily embodied in the relationship between Partisan commander Španac and former Royal Army officer Radekić, with Španac viewing Radekić as the reason for the villagers' opposition to the Communist ideology. The film won the Big Golden Arena for Best Film at the 1990 Pula Film Festival, and awards for Best Actor (Branislav Lečić) and Best Film Score (Goran Bregović). It was also recognized at the 1991 Moscow International Film Festival, where Branislav Lečić and Mustafa Nadarević both received Silver St. George Awards for their performances.
