Description:
The film chronicles the determined efforts of two Icelandic men to become the first from their nation to swim the English Channel, a feat considered the ultimate challenge for swimmers. It follows their setbacks and, ultimately, the triumph of one of them. Woven into their story is the history of swimming in Iceland, specifically the difficult journey to revive the skill after it had nearly disappeared. By the 19th century, very few Icelanders could swim. Through historical scenes referencing ancient sagas, we see how a local hero once defeated Norwegian rivals in a Viking sea wrestling match and how a mother swam to safety with her children after fleeing a violent attack.
