Description:
Hidden in the Appalachian mountains, the Melungeons are a people of mixed ancestry. For generations, the community in Vardy Valley, Tennessee, faced prejudice and isolation because of their heritage, leading many to abandon their home. But recently, Melungeon identity has grown stronger, drawing people back to the valley to rediscover their history. They seek answers to their origins: are they connected to Portuguese sailors lost at sea, or the vanished Roanoke colony? This film follows the community's effort to share a story some would prefer to keep hidden.
