Description:
In 1930s Sicily, Aurelio Grimaldi's first film tells the difficult story of Aclà, a twelve-year-old boy sold into slavery by his poor parents to work in the dangerous Floristella sulfur mines. He works long hours, Monday through Saturday, in the hot, dimly lit tunnels, where he is overworked and barely fed. Aclà is repeatedly beaten and threatened, and he desperately plans an escape to the sea.
